One thing I find concerning once an artist finds success is the pressure to follow a certain look consistently is so strong it seems artists use formulas and xerox out copy after copy. I always wrestle with keeping my style consistent but fresh. With the advert pieces I find it interesting and challenging to match a bit of the design I'm working with. So every piece requires a different hand. With this one it's definately a Bauhaus 30s 40s euro thing...burning time

Shout Outs to the Namesake

My recent interactions with Sage Francis reminded me of this post I've been wanting to do for awhile where I put up others with like names.  Writing a name like love, obviously there are a lot of other people with similar names. Yes, I agree, I do not win any points for originality.  Makes it even more obnoxious that I put a one behind it like I'm the one and only because I spell it like the non romantic LUV, the one is more about the oneness of said LUV being expressed, nahmean? Like Bob Marley jo.  Thing about love is, tho, I am not in competition with others for the name.  I just look at it as we are all trying to spread love.  Same team, family, cuzzo type thing.  So when I come across another positive soul, I've always made a mental note to one day shout 'em out.  Today's day one....

It's autumn, it's brisk, windy, chilly. It's dark and it's not even dinner time. Warmth and comfort, the heat of the steam, creamy hot cocoa going down to your stomache, spreading heat all around your chest to your finger tips. Giving you power restored, no longer so vulnerable to the rugged concrete, no longer a chattering statue, now fresh and agile. These paintings are biographical visual memories, a collection of textures and rhythm I feel of my past as I paint them. I sit at kitchen tables, I walk down dim lit streets.

What is an Aerosol Art Battle?

A theme is given the day of the event. Then artists are given an equal amount of time to complete their art on space provided. Example, canvas, Crescent Graffiti Paper, wood. They will all be using Montana spray paint and paint markers. A qualified panel of judges base the art on different criteria, lettering, concept, color, composition, originality and technique.

THE BLACK BOOK BATTLE! OPEN TO EVERYONE!

Register at Noon or anytime before event at Colorest during business hours.

Crescent will provide all on-time attendees with Black Book. Colorest will be providing some art materials, although contestants are urged to bring materials such as: colored pencils, markers, paint markers etc. to compete in battle. Sharing could take away valuable time! Registration is limited!

Winner Receives:

Art Materials Valued at $100 and Gift Card From Rare Breed Footwear!

Rules:

Registrants will be given a topic to use for inspiration, they will be allowed 60 minutes to complete this piece. Then Judges will pick winner based on same criteria for Aerosol Event. If you have never competed and want some tips take our workshop from 12-2 on Saturday 11/12 with Leon Rainbow (Judge) for tips and tricks!

What is a Black Book Battle?

Similar to the aerosol event but, instead of painting on large surfaces you draw, paint and design all on paper. Black books are a place for artists to put down ideas, Crescent® Graffiti Paper™ is designed specifically for spray paints, acrylics and won’t dry out markers. Great place for artists to sketch or experiment anywhere inspiration strikes.
